PITTSBURGH – Pitt outfielder Lorenzo Carrier has been named the Golden Spikes/D1Baseball National Player of the Week, USA Baseball announced on Monday afternoon.
Carrier went 13-for-15 (.867 avg.) with 19 RBI, 10 runs scored, five home runs, two triples, one double and 33 total bases while slugging 2.200 with a 3.095 OPS in Pitt's perfect 4-0 week.
He started his week going 3-3 with a triple, a home run and four RBI in a 16-2 win over Ohio in the Panthers' midweek matchup against the Bobcats.
The redshirt senior then kicked off the weekend with career high two-homer, eight-RBI, performance at San Jose State. Carrier hit a grand slam, a two-run blast and a two-run single to knock in a career-high eight runs in Friday's win. He backed that up with a five-hit, five-RBI game on Saturday to clinch the series, driving in runs on another two-run blast, a two-run triple and an RBI single.
The Bear, DE native still had more in the tank in Sunday's series finale, blasting a two-run home run in the top of the first inning on the first pitch he saw. Carrier doubled in the top of the third inning as the Panthers went on to sweep the San Jose State Spartans this weekend.
Carrier is hitting .490 this year with 53 total bases, 36 RBI, 24 hits, seven home runs, four doubles and a 1.082 slugging percentage. His RBI and slugging percentage lead the ACC.
Pitt is off to a 12-2 start and have won each of their last eight games.
