Pitt’s Carrier Named Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist

PITTSBURGH – Pitt outfielder Lorenzo Carrier was named as a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy, the publications announced today.
The Golden Spikes Award (USA Baseball) is presented annually to the best amateur baseball player in the country. The Dick Howser Trophy (NCBWA) is awarded each year to the top player in college baseball.
Carrier was one of 25 student-athletes to be recognized by USA Baseball as one the top amateur baseball players in the country. He is the first player in program history to be named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
Lorenzo Carrier has emerged as one of the most lethal power hitters in college baseball in 2026. Nationally, the redshirt senior ranks among the leaders in home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and walks. Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, he is batting .398 with 68 hits,62 RBI, 59 runs scored, 18 home runs and 13 doubles. He is slugging .813 with a 1.362 OPS and leads the ACC in walks with 51.
The Bear, DE native is closing in on single-season program records for home runs, walks, RBI and slugging percentage. As a team, he has led the Panther offense to program records in home runs and walks in a single season as well.
Carrier leapt into the national eye with a month of March where he batted .500 with 28 hits, 28 runs scored, 33 RBI, 11 home runs and 25 walks while slugging 1.196 in 56 at-bats.
As for his work off the field, Carrier is very involved in the classroom and in the community and was named as one of the nine finalists for the 2026 Tony Gwynn Community Service Trophy. Academically, Lorenzo has earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District, Academic All-ACC and ACC Academic Honor Roll honors throughout his career.
Fan voting will again play a part in the Golden Spikes Award in 2026. Following today's semifinalist announcement, baseball fans can vote for their favorite players on GoldenSpikesAward.com to help determine the finalists. USA Baseball will announce the finalists for the award on June 10, and fan voting will once again open at GoldenSpikesAward.com to help determine the winner before closing on June 28.

• June 9: Golden Spikes Award semifinalists fan voting ends
• June 10: Golden Spikes Award finalists announced, and fan voting begins
• June 28: Golden Spikes Award finalists fan voting ends
• June 29: Golden Spikes Award winner announced
