Five Takeaways from Pitt Football Training Camp Practice No. 16

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Football program began their final week of training camp on Tuesday. Head Coach Pat Narduzzi, alongside offensive lineman BJ Williams and defensive lineman Jimmy Scott, met with the media.
1.High-Quality Scrimmages in the Fall
Following Pitt's second scrimmage of fall camp this past weekend, Coach Narduzzi was once again pleased with how his team performed.
When discussing both of the Panthers' scrimmages during camp, Narduzzi described them as high-quality and very solid. He praised both sides of the ball for their play in the fall – especially the offense for their lack of turnovers.
2.Offense Wins the Second Scrimmage
Pitt's offense continued to impress during fall camp as Coach Narduzzi relayed to the media that they won Sunday's scrimmage.
That's two in a row that they've won, said Narduzzi. They did some great things. They were explosive. They made some explosive plays.
The Panther offense, behind sophomore quarterback Mason Heintschel, has done a great job of creating explosives and limiting turnovers so far this camp.
3.Offense Limiting Turnovers
A recurring theme throughout training camp is how Pitt's offense has excelled at limiting turnovers.
Talk about a clean day in terms of not turning the ball over, Narduzzi said when referring to Sunday's scrimmage.
Defensive lineman Jimmy Scott praised the offense and Mason Heintschel for their lack turnovers, He's a heck of a player. He's been doing his job pretty well.
The offense has found themselves on top after both scrimmages because of their ability to protect the football.
4.Doing the Little Things Right
When asked what has led to the offense's success during camp, senior offensive lineman BJ Williams emphasized the little things.
Doing the little things right in practice. Not giving half effort…Trying to finish more and chasing after the ball.
Williams and the offense know that doing the little things right will lead to success as the season progresses.
5.Protecting Mason
Williams harped on the importance of protecting quarterback Mason Heintschel this season.
It's something we take pride in. There's a chip on our shoulder because we have to protect Mason.
He knows that if he and his offensive line give Heintschel time, he can make something happen.
