Pitt Cross Country Finishes Second, Third at Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Pitt men's cross country team claimed second place and the women's team finished third at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Friday at Penn State University.
Men's Race
The men's team finished second with a score of 55 points, trailing only Syracuse (15) and edging Penn State (94). Nolan McGinn led the Panthers with a sixth-place finish in 25:38.7, followed closely by Nick Steinfeldt (25:49.4, 9th) and Luke Simpson (25:51.5, 12th). Andrew Bitsko rounded out the top four scorers with a 14th-place finish in 25:54.5. Jacob Abraham (26:17.8, 21st) was Pitt's fifth scorer, while Ethan Feinstein (26:23.4, 25th) and Chris Belch (26:32.3, 28th) also contributed for the Panthers.
Women's Race
The women's team finished third with a score of 90 points, behind Syracuse (32) and Penn State (36). Maureen Cheruiyot led Pitt with a strong second-place individual finish in 20:22.0, just seven seconds behind race winner Keira Rogan of Syracuse. Ella Cook (21:21.9, 16th), Annie Czajkowski (21:37.6, 21st), Elena Barrall (21:42.3, 24th) and Alex Fleck (21:56.2, 32nd) rounded out the scoring five for the Panthers.
