PITTSBURGH – Volleyball's Olivia Babcock and football's Damon Ferguson Jr. have been honored as the PNC Achievers of the Week for standout performances over the last week.
Senior Olivia Babcock led No. 2 Pitt volleyball to a 4-0 week and had the best attack percentage of her career in a sweep of Wright State. Babcock hit .765 with 13 kills on just 17 swings in the victory that pushed the Panthers to 10-0 on the season. Earlier in the week, she had 17 kills in a sweep of No. 17 Tennessee and posted 20 kills in a victory over High Point.
In the first start of his career on Saturday, freshman running back Damon Ferguson Jr. led all players with 59 yards rushing and a touchdown as Pitt fended off UCF in the rain, 12-7. Ferguson was a steady presence in the backfield for the Panthers and caught three passes for 27 yards to total 86 all-purpose yards on the afternoon. After finding the end zone for the first time in week one on a 15-yard reception out of the backfield, Ferguson scored the first rushing touchdown of his career at the end of the first half against the Knights. His 13-yard rushing score proved to be the difference as the Panthers improved to 2-0.
