PITTSBURGH — The Pitt men's soccer team earned their third-straight win on Friday night, edging Louisville, 1-0, at Ambrose Urbanic Field to improve to 6-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in ACC play.
Pitt broke through in the 39th minute when Mamadou Tall buried his fourth goal of the season, finishing off a sequence started by Pablo Portero, who found Anders Bordoy on the left wing for the cross into the middle. The goal proved to be the difference, as neither side found the net again.
Louisville pushed for an equalizer throughout the second half, finding five shots after break and testing Jack Moxom, but the senior goalkeeper turned away all four shots he faced on goal to preserve the shutout. It was Moxom's fourth clean sheet of the season.
Anders Bordoy paced Pitt's offense with three shots, two of which found the target, while Caden Grabfelder and Albert Thorsen each added two shots apiece. For Louisville, Mamadou Oumar Ndiaye led all players with two shots, both on frame.
Pitt held the edge in total shots (11-7), shots on goal (6-4) and corner kicks (7-3). The win moves Pitt to 2-1-0 in ACC play and drops Louisville to 7-1-2 (1-1-1 ACC).
UP NEXT
Pitt hits the road for ACC action on Friday, Oct. 2, when the Panthers travel to face Syracuse. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
