SOPHOMORE (2004): Mayer served as the backup shortstop to All-Big East selection Bryan Spamer and also came off the bench as a pinch runner...played in 30 games, starting 10, and had an impressive .341 batting average...despite limited action, scored 14 runs and had a .500 slugging percentage...had two triples on the year, which tied for third on the team...had a career-high three hits in three at-bats and scored one run against Niagara...also had a stolen base against the Purple Eagles...posted two hits in a career-high six at-bats in the 20-5 victory at Buffalo...had a triple and scored two runs while knocking in another...also tallied two hits, two RBIs and one run scored in the 10-3 win at Youngstown State...roped an RBI-triple and added a second RBI on a sacrifice fly against Sacred Heart...in his only at-bat against St. John[apos]s, collected a double...inserted as a pinch runner and scored in six consecutive games midway through the season.
FRESHMAN (2003): In limited action, was the primary backup to Bryan Spamer at shortstop...played in nine games, starting one (Mount St. Mary[apos]s, March 4)...batted .200 on the year with two RBIs...had first career hit as a pinch-hitter at New Orleans...had one hit in two at-bats versus Chicago State while scoring once and driving in another run...was hit by-a-pitch twice, scored once and drove in a run at Niagara...tallied one hit in three tries at Kent State.
HIGH SCHOOL: Had a career batting average of .380 at Somerset High...earned All-Area honors as a junior and senior...played for four years for the Somerset American Legion squad...scored over 1,000 points for the school[apos]s basketball team...member of the three-time Laurel Highlands championship team...drafted in the 40th round of the Major League Draft by the Cleveland Indians.
