Our Mission
The mission of University of Pittsburgh Sports Nutrition program is to optimize the health and performance of our student-athletes through a food first philosophy and serve as a great source of pride in representing the University of Pittsburgh athletic department. Pitt Sports Nutrition is committed to improving the training, performance, and recovery of our student-athletes through evidence-based resources that promote student-athlete wellness. As a part of the performance team, Pitt Sports Nutrition works closely with athletic trainers, strength coaches, physicians, and mental health professionals to assure quality and continuity in the care of our student-athletes.
Our Vision
The vision of the University of Pittsburgh Sports Nutrition Program is to continue to build champions by providing our athletes with the nutrition knowledge, skills, and resources to strive for excellence in academics, athletics, and in life.
- Educate and empower Pitt student athletes to improve health and performance through nutrition resources
- Optimize training, recovery, and performance of Pitt student-athletes through a food-first approach
- Provide student-athletes with nutrition knowledge and skills that last far beyond the student-athlete experience

- Team Nutrition Education
- Red Card App
- Fueling Stations
- Grocery Store Tours and online ordering education
- Cooking Demos with sports dietitians and chefs
- Campus Meal Plans
- Game day fuel planning (home and travel)
- Body Composition assessment, interpretation, and education
- Taste it Tuesday’s: Education and exposure to unfamiliar foods and recipes
- Supplement Education: It’s our job to stay current on the research related to supplement safety & usage
- Daily nutrition tips, tricks and knowledge customized to Pitt student-athletes
- Hydration testing for individuals and teams
- Sweat testing using Gatorade Sport Science Institute technology
