Effective January 1, 2018, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has repealed the "80/20" rule for charitable giving related to seating. Therefore, all contributions tied to priority seating or parking are no longer considered tax-deductible. Any fees associated with priority seating or parking will now be known as Scholarship Seating Membership (SSM). Panther Club priority points and membership benefits are still applicable.
All donations not related to seating and are above and beyond SSM, like donations to the Student-Athlete Success Fund or Championship Funds are tax-deductible. Please consult your personal tax advisor concerning the deductibility of any contribution to the Panther Club.
Pitt, like other colleges and universities across the country, has a priority seating and parking program in place to provide funding that is vital to our athletics programs. At Pitt, all funds received through our SSM program are used to help offset the scholarship expenses of Pitt student-athletes. The need for this funding still exists and has continued to grow over the years.
The Student-Athlete Success Fund is our philanthropic annual fund which provides vital resources such as scholarship support, leadership development, technology and health and wellness resources to our 850 student-athletes, Pitt Band and Spirit Squad members.
