Kellen Campbell ascended from virtual anonymity at the beginning of last season to seize a starting job and make vital contributions to Pitt[apos]s Fiesta Bowl run...with bulldog determination and sharp football sense, Campbell rescued the Panthers when injuries depleted the fullback position...was a starter the final two months of the season, including the Fiesta Bowl...in Pitt[apos]s dramatic 16-13 win over West Virginia, Campbell threw a key block to spring Tyler Palko[apos]s game-winning two-yard touchdown run...his success is a fitting reward for his pride and perseverance...joined Pitt as a walk-on in 2001...made a favorable impression on his new running backs coach during this offseason...'Kellen is a very coachable player,' David Walker said. 'He does a nice job as both a ball carrier and blocker. Kellen did an excellent job picking up the scheme during the spring and I[apos]m excited about what he can do this year.'...was a high school teammate of junior quarterback Tyler Palko at West Allegheny.

High School: Football and wrestling standout at West Allegheny...earned all-state, All-Big 7 and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette 'Fabulous 22' West honors in football under Coach Bob Palko...was the team[apos]s starting linebacker and running back from his sophomore year on...helped West Allegheny to three WPIAL football titles and one runner-up finish...in wrestling earned all-state and compiled over 100 career victories...four-year letterman in both football and wrestling...graduated with honors...junior class president.
