2010 Scouting Report: Enters his third season as a walk-on at Pitt...initially joining the team as a punter, Costello subsequently moved to the secondary and carved out a niche on Pitt[apos]s kickoff coverage unit...will provide depth at free safety....a 2009 Big East All-Academic Team honoree.
2009: Played in 10 games to letter, seeing time on the kickoff team...had four tackles on the season, including a career-high two stops vs. Cincinnati...named the coaching staff[apos]s Special Teams Player of the Game for his efforts in the victory at Rutgers...competed at punter during the preseason before moving to safety.
2008: Joined Pitt as a walk-on in the fall and redshirted.
High School: Three-sport athlete at Hempfield Area, lettering in football, baseball and soccer...two-time All-Foothills Conference punter...played football under Coach Greg Meisner, a former standout defensive lineman at Pitt (1977-80) who spent more than a decade in the NFL...played in the Foothills Classic all-star game...Costello also was an all-section outfielder for the baseball team.
Personal: Patrick Albert Costello, born 12/13/89, is the son of Charles and the late Debra Costello...has one brother and one sister...father was a diving letterman at Pitt (1968-69)...civil engineering major.
