Ron Idoko made unsung but vitally important contributions in the trenches last year as a top reserve at defensive tackle...now in his fourth and final year as a walk-on player at Pitt, Idoko appears poised to build upon his productive 2004 season...significantly increased his strength and weight in the offseason, which should make him even more effective this year...lauded by defensive tackles coach Bob Junko for his tireless work ethic and underrated athleticism...'Ron knows the tempo you have to play at every down,' Junko said. 'He is athletic and really gets off the ball well. The biggest thing about Ron is his unbelievable strength. He plays with good leverage and that makes him even stronger.'...came to Pitt on an academic scholarship.
2004: Played in 11 games as the chief reserve behind senior starter Dan Stephens ...had 10 tackles with 1.5 TFLs, a sack assist and a fumble recovery...had a season-high three tackles with one TFL against Nebraska...had two tackles, a sack assist and fumble recovery versus Rutgers...credited with two pass deflections and a solo tackle at South Florida.
2003: Did not play in any games.
2002: Walked on to the team and redshirted.
High School: Football letterman at John F. Kennedy High...All-City Academic Team...helped the Knights to an 11-1 record and the city championship as a senior.
Personal: Ronald Idoko, born 11/11/83, is the son of Emmanuel and Evelyn Idoko...has five sisters and one brother...interned in the Pitt athletic media relations office and contributed to the production of the football media guide...communication and rhetoric major.
