Cassie Smith joined the University of Pittsburgh athletic department in May of 2021 as an administrative assistant, supporting the gymnastics, volleyball, swimming and diving, track and field, and wrestling programs. In July of 2022, Smith transitioned to the Strategic Communications department as the Assistant Director of Social Media and Media Operations. She oversees press row during basketball games at the Petersen Events Center and acts as a liaison for visiting teams, media, professional scouts. Additionally, Smith creates content for social media use across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

A 2018 graduate of Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, Smith was a four-year member of the women’s basketball team, where she played under Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coach, Barbara Stevens. After receiving her degree in Information Design and Corporate Communications from Bentley, Smith went on to earn her MBA from Robert Morris University.

An Edison, New Jersey native, Cassie currently resides in Pittsburgh with her dog, Bo.

What is your favorite thing to do in the city of Pittsburgh?
I enjoy walking or riding my bike on various trails: Three Rivers Heritage Trail, Montour Trail, and the Panhandle Trail.

What do you love most about working in athletics?
As a former student-athlete, it is a rewarding feeling to be able to work in athletics and support our current student-athletes to ensure that they have the best experience during their time here.
