LaVonne Gauthney is in his first season with the Pitt football program as an offensive assistant.
Gauthney comes to Pitt from Valdosta State, where he was a graduate assistant offensive line coach/equipment manager in 2024.
Prior to Valdosta State, Gauthney was a co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Wiregrass Ranch High School in Wesley Chapel, Fla., which went 9-3 (school record) and was named District 6 4S Champions. He coached two players to All-Conference honors, with the quarterback breaking the Pasco County and school passing record, as well as being named Pasco County Player of the Year. Gauthney's offensive line allowed just 4.0 sacks in 12 games.
In 2022, Gauthney was a defensive line/strength and conditioning coach at Hilliard Davidson High School in Ohio. During that season, he coached Turner Schmidt to All-State at defensive end.
He also spent three years at his alma mater Reynoldsburg High School in Ohio, where he was an offensive line coach, and coached Jalen Bowens to All-State in 2019.
A native of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Gauthney played collegiately at Akron, where he was a three-year letterman for the Zips. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management.
