Bio
Unable to compete due to a fractured patella (kneecap), Austin Wallace will serve as a student assistant with the Pitt men[apos]s basketball program. His many team-related duties include serving as Pitt Basketball[apos]s representative on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, along with working as the Big East[apos]s SAAC liaison. His responsibilities include community service, community speaking engagements and life skills programming and operations for the SAAC. He also works as the PLA Veterans Leader.
Wallace suffered the injury last December prior to Pitt[apos]s game at Washington. He saw action in four games in 2007-08 after redshirting his initial season at Pitt. Following his first year at Pitt, he earned the team[apos]s Jaron Brown Academic Excellence Award for his academic work.
A 2006 graduate of LaSalle Academy in Bronx, N.Y., Wallace averaged 19.6 points and 17.4 rebounds per game while leading his squad to a 26-5 record and state semifinal appearance as a senior. Wallace earned Second Team All-State, Second Team All-City and Second Tri-State recognition following his senior season. As a junior, Wallace guided LaSalle to a 26-8 record while averaging 17.0 points and 11 rebounds per game. He attended South Bronx High School before enrolling at LaSalle.
Wallace played AAU basketball with the New York Gauchos and earned New York Challenge MVP honors. He also led the Super Showcase Nationals in both rebounds and double-doubles.
A Bronx, N.Y. native, Wallace majors in communications. He plans to graduate this summer.
