Lindsey Behonick has served alongside head coach Dan Fisher as assistant coach of the Pitt volleyball program since the Panthers joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013. In nine seasons, Behonick has helped guide the Panthers to its first three ACC Championships (2017, 2018, 2019), back-to-back NCAA Elite Eights (2020, 2021) and an NCAA Final Four appearance (2021). Pitt has competed in each of the last six NCAA Tournaments, marking the longest postseason streak in program history.

Behonick and Fisher have been coaching together since 2011, leading Concordia to the 2012 NAIA National Title before departing for Pittsburgh.

Helped coach Pitt on the way to the university’s first NCAA Women’s Division I Final Four appearance, marking the Panthers’ longest NCAA Tournament run in program history

Pitt competed in the NCAA Tournament for a fifth consecutive season
The Panthers ended the season ranked No. 8 in the AVCA Coaches Poll
2020 marked the seventh consecutive season with Pitt ranked in the NCAA RPI Top 50
Helped coached outside hitter Kayla Lund en route to her most decorated season, becoming the ACC’s first two-time Volleyball Player of the Year, Pitt’s first two-time AVCA East Coast Region Player of the Year and two-time AVCA Second Team All-American, tying the program's highest honors ever earned
For the first time, Pitt had two AVCA All-America Team selections in Lund and right side hitter Chinaza Ndee

Helped lead the Panthers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 12 years and the first to advance to the second round in 13 years
Worked with Pitt’s defense in their third consecutive year of winning 20 en route to finishing 25-9 overall and 15-5 in the ACC
Guided standout middle-blocker Jenna Potts, who finished fifth in the ACC in blocks with 160 total, averaging 1.32 per set
Worked with libero Angela Seman, who led the team in digs (486), finishing with 3.95 per set

2015

Oversaw Angela Seman as she led the team and finished fifth in the ACC in digs (4.55/set)
Helped Pitt’s defense to the fourth-best opponent hitting percentage (.177) in the ACC, while also helping the Panthers to 2.67 blocks per set which was fourth-best in the conference
Coached the team to 20-plus wins for the second consecutive season, marking the first occurrence since the team went back-to-back-to-back in 2002, 2003, and 2004

2014

As a primarily defensive coach, Behonick saw Pitt finish the season ranked second in the ACC in opponent hitting percentage (.166) and fifth in digs (14.70/set)
Oversaw the progress of libero Delaney Clesen, who put up 480 digs in 2014 to finish with the second-most digs in program history (1,587)
Helped the defensive play of junior middle-hitter Amanda Orchard, who notched 91 blocks and 71 digs en route to All-America Honorable Mention honors
Pitt ended 2014 ranked sixth in the nation in assist (13.61/set), eighth in aces (1.74/set) and ninth in kills (14.32/set)

2013

Named the assistant coach of the University of Pittsburgh volleyball program Feb. 6, 2013
Helped the Panthers improve from a conference winning percentage of .466 in 2012 to .550

Holds school records for games played and block assists in addition to tallying more than 1,000 career kills
Turned pro upon graduation from CU, playing for Innsbruck, Austria’s VC-Tirol from 2008-2009

Education

Earned her master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia in 2014
Completed undergrad at Concordia in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business sports management

A native of Dana Point, Calif., Behonick (formerly Campbell) resides in Pittsburgh with her husband, Michael, and their two sons: Miles and Aiden

Beyond the Bio

Favorite place on the University of Pittsburgh campus?
- My favorite place on the University of Pittsburgh campus is Schenley Plaza. Schenley Plaza is a beautiful green space on lower campus. It is great to grab lunch at, look out at the Cathedral and see many students enjoying the sun in the Spring/Summer time.
Favorite sports moment at Pitt?
- My favorite sports moment at Pitt was when our Pitt volleyball team took down No. 15 Florida State during the 2015 season. It was the first time since 2005 Pitt took down a nationally ranked opponent.
What is your favorite thing to do in the city of Pittsburgh?
- My favorite thing to do in the city is attend concerts. The city has concerts and shows one can see any day during the week or weekend from reggae, to bluegrass, pop or rock. The best part about the music scene in the ‘Burgh are the venues. You can see a big name or local band in some of the most historic buildings the city has to offer.
Hobbies outside of work?
- My favorite hobby outside of work is bike riding. My favorite trail to ride is the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. You get to ride along the rivers and enjoy the beautiful views. I love ending up at Point State Park, where after a ride you can sit at the fountain and watch all the boats pass by.
