Abby Schnable joined Pitt Athletics as Director of Storytelling and Multimedia Content in June 2026.
Prior to joining Pitt Athletics, Schnable spent more than three years covering college athletics for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. She began as a trending college sports reporter before transitioning to the Pitt beat full time.
During her time covering the Panthers, Schnable reported on numerous NCAA postseason appearances, including three volleyball Final Four runs, NCAA Tournament appearances by men's and women's soccer and national championship appearances by Pitt track and field athletes. She also contributed to coverage of Pitt men's basketball's return to the NCAA Tournament in 2023.
In addition to Pitt, Schnable covered programs across the region, including Robert Morris, Duquesne, Penn State and West Virginia, providing extensive experience covering college athletics at both the conference and national levels. She was on site throughout Duquesne men's basketball's memorable Atlantic 10 championship run in 2024 and subsequent NCAA Tournament appearance, documenting one of the most significant moments in program history.
Before moving to Pittsburgh, Schnable covered Wisconsin athletics, where she reported on the Badgers' 2021-22 men's basketball team, a squad that captured a share of the Big Ten championship and featured future NBA lottery selection Johnny Davis. She also assisted with coverage of a variety of other Wisconsin athletic programs.
A graduate of Loyola University Chicago, Schnable had the opportunity to cover and follow the Ramblers during one of the most successful eras in school history, including the program's memorable Final Four appearance in 2018 and Sweet 16 run in 2021.
Originally from St. Louis, Schnable is an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues. She also enjoys spending time with her dog, Finlay.
Favorite place to eat?
I lived in Mount Washington during my first three years in Pittsburgh and will never stop talking about Coughlin's Law. The menu rotates frequently, but I've never had a bad meal there. If it's available, order the crab rangoon nachos.
What is your favorite outside-of-work hobby?
Reading. I set a goal of reading 50 books each year, although it usually ends up somewhere between 20 and 30 because of how busy sports seasons can get. I'm always looking for recommendations.
What is your favorite sports moment at Pitt?
Pitt volleyball's Elite Eight victory over Louisville in 2023. Sitting on press row, I was convinced the match was over when Louisville took a two-set lead. Instead, the Panthers rallied for an unforgettable reverse sweep to reach the Final Four and the Fitzgerald Field House was the loudest I've ever heard it. Honorable mentions to men’s basketball vs. Syracuse in 2023 and Braylan Lovelace’s pick six at Georgia Tech in 2025.
