Gunnar Geyer joined the University of Pittsburgh’s Academic Support Service for Student Athlete's department in October of 2022 as a Learning Specialist and the Tutorial Coordinator, where he then later transitioned to working with the Football and Baseball teams as an Academic Counselor.
In his first semester with Baseball, the team set multiple program records in regard to academics. During the Fall 2023 semester, the team achieved a 3.30 GPA while also having 33 student-athletes achieve a 3.0 GPA or higher. The team also had 16 student-athletes awarded placement on the Dean's List. Prior to coming to Pitt and working within the ASSSA, Gunnar worked at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown campus as an Academic and Career Counselor, First-Gen Coordinator, and Athletics Advisor. In his first year at Pitt Johnstown, Gunnar was awarded the Staff Advisor of the Year Award for his advising work with student-athletes and undeclared students.
A 2018, Bachelor of Science in Public Health and 2020, Masters in Student Affairs in Higher Education graduate of Slippery Rock University, Gunnar was a part of the men’s basketball program. During his 3 years, Gunnar played an integral part in all basketball operations.
A Pittsburgh native, Gunnar resides in Lawrenceville.

Favorite sports moment at Pitt?
When Pitt won the 2021 ACC Championship. Being there in person will be a moment I will never forget.
Favorite aspect of working in Pitt’s Athletic Department?
Hands down the student-athletes we work with. They are the reason we do what we do. Seeing them succeed both in their respective sport and in their academics is priceless.
