Matt Schmidt serves as the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Camps.
Pitt Sports Camps is responsible for all camp operations, registrations, website, marketing plans, hiring of student-athletes and contractors, and ensuring all state clearance requirements are met by the camp staff.
Schmidt also oversees facility rentals and secures licensee agreements, clearances, and remit payments for all groups.
Prior to his arrival at Pitt in March of 2022. Schmidt worked for over 25+ years as a collegiate basketball coach and has celebrated over 400 victories, including a Division II National Championship. Schmidt's most recent stops include serving as the Head Coach at Wheeling University, Associate Head Coach at Duquesne University, Head Coach at Armstrong Atlantic State University, and serving as an Assistant Coach at Northern Kentucky University, The University of Findlay, and West Virginia University. + While Schmidt served as Duquesne’s Offensive Coordinator during his eight seasons, the Dukes posted five 20+ win seasons, including five trips to the post-season, their first-ever share of 1st place in the A-10 Conference, their first appearance in the A-10 Championship Finals, and their first NCAA Tournament game in program history. Schmidt coached nine of the top scorers in program history, seven 1,000-point scorers, and collectively, the Dukes earned over twenty A-10 All-Conference individual honors.
From 2008 to 2013, Schmidt served as the Head Coach of Division II Armstrong Atlantic State in Savannah, Georgia. During his tenure, he led the Division II squad to 60 victories and 37 in the Peach Belt Conference, including a signature 69-67 victory over #5 USC Aiken during his final season. + From 2004 to 2008, Schmidt was the top assistant coach for the legendary coach, Nancy Winstel, at Northern Kentucky University. Schmidt helped the Norse to an impressive 92-32 record, including a Division II National Championship during his final season.
As a student-athlete, Schmidt played collegiately at West Liberty State in Wheeling, West Virginia.
Schmidt and his wife, Brittany, have two sons, Jackson and Zachary, who are proud to be Montour Spartans.
