PITTSBURGH (AP) - Freshman Ricardo Greer scored a career-high 26 points and helped Pittsburgh overcome a 12-point deficit Saturday to defeat Providence, 73-72.
Greer also had 10 rebounds and nine assists to help limit Providence's winning streak to three games.
In the Big East Conference game, Providence watched an 8-point halftime lead slip away.
With 6:27 to play, Pittsburgh tied the game 60-60. The game remained close down the stretch, and with :38 to go, Pittsburgh led 71-67.
Down 73-71 with :01 to play, Llewellyn Cole went to the free-throw line for two free throws but made only the first.
The Panthers (5-10 conference, 10-13 overall) last beat the Friars (6-10, 11-14) in 1995 and had lost the past four games against the Friars.
