PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Panther women's tennis team captured its third shutout victory of the season with a 9-0 win against St. Bonaventure at the Charles Cost Center Tuesday, March 31.
Fran Davis (Dallas, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) defeated Andrea Irons, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 3 singles seed and also picked up an 8-2 doubles victory with partner Erin Shalbrack (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin), bringing her within two victories of breaking Pittsburgh's all-time career wins record of 116 set in 1993. Amanda Hoffman (West Palm Beach, Fla./Forrest Hill) was also impressive, recording a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Kim Owen.
Lindsay Carlson (Gambrills, Md./Arandel) put up a fine effort, winning her first set, 6-2. St. Bonaventure's Sara Wilcox, however, rallied with a 6-2 win in the second set. Carlson came back with a furry and sealed the victory, 6-3, in the third set.
Also winning in doubles were the teams of Dana Jafarian (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) and Carlson, and Alison Bucher (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and Hoffman. Both teams won, 8-2.
