PITTSBURGH - With just 13 seconds remaining in the first overtime period, Wyoming's Anne Maddock scored the game-winning goal to lead the visiting Cowgirls over the Pittsburgh women's soccer team, 1-0, today at the Morton Sports Complex.
The match remained scoreless throughout regulation though there were many scoring opportunities for both teams. The Panthers outshot Wyoming by a total of 27-19, but could not convert on a goal. It seemed as though another overtime period would be in order, but in the 104th minute, Cowgirl forward Kerri Fahres fed a pass to Maddock, who shot the ball from eight yards out past Pittsburgh keeper Rachel Brown (Burnley, England/St. Christopher's).
Brown had ten saves while Wyoming's Amanda Vandervort had 12. Pittsburgh's Cande Ruiz (Oxnard, Calif./Santa Clara) led the Panthers with seven shots on goal. Wyoming's Katrina Morton led her team with five.
The loss moves the Panthers to 1-5 on the year. The Cowgirls improve to 4-2-1.
Pittsburgh will travel to Robert Morris this Sunday, Sept. 17. Game time is 1 p.m.
