PITTSBURGH-Senior midfielder Katrina Shibata (Lakewood, Calif./Mayfair) scored with 6:31 remaining to complete a 2-1 comeback victory over No. 24 Miami on Friday evening. For the Panthers, it was their first victory on the road. Their four previous wins came at home or at a neutral site.
Miami's Laura West scored her ninth goal of the season at the 23:55 mark of the first half with assists by Britney Butcher and Anik Huffman to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead.
That lead stood for almost 40 minutes until Pittsburgh forward Annette Agredano (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson High Magnet) tallied at 62:25 on an assist from freshman Jacqueline Reuter (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West). It was Agredano's fourth goal of the year and the ninth of her career, tying her with Charity McClure for third on the Panthers' all-time list. The assist was Reuter's first point of her career.
Shibata's goal was her second of the season, a career-high. The Hurricanes outshot the Panthers, 17-11, but goalkeeper Rachel Brown (Burnley, England/St. Christopher's/Alabama) kept Pittsburgh in the game with eight saves. Agredano was the only Panther with more than one shot and she had two to give her 28 on the year. West led the Hurricanes with four shots and Lisa Gomez and Huffman added three apiece.
The Panthers will host St. Francis (Pa.) on Tues., Oct. 16 at Founders Field in Indianola, Pa. Game time is 4 p.m.
