Women's Tennis Player Earns ITA Scholar-Athlete Award

University of Pittsburgh senior tennis player Nikki Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area H.S.) was honored by the International Tennis Association as a Scholar-Athlete Award recipient. Borza was one of only 45 women nationwide to earn the award. The Scholar-Athlete Award honors student-athletes who achieve a 3.5 grade point average or higher.
A three-year letter winner and two-year team captain, Borza earned team Most Valuable Player honors for the 1999-2000 season. She owns a 45-38 career singles record and 33-34 career doubles record mainly as a No. 1 or No. 2 player. Borza recorded a team-high 18 singles victories as a freshman.
Pittsburgh has sported a 34-35 team record in Borza?s three years. Borza will begin the 2002-2003 season at Pittsburgh as a team captain.
An outstanding student, Borza has earned Athletic Director?s High Honor Roll status in each of the last three years and has been a Dean?s List student in each semester. She is also a University Scholar-Athlete who received the All American Scholar-Athlete Award.
As a high school senior at Beaver Area High School, Borza won the WPIAL singles championship, earned Pennsylvania All State First Team honors and was a four-time MAC champion and section singles winner.
