Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Ohio State grabbed a first half lead and held off several second half scoring opportunities to register a 1-0 victory over the Pittsburgh women?s soccer team Sunday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The contest concluded the 2002 Ohio State Soccer Tournament and dropped Pittsburgh to 3-3-0 on the year. Ohio State improves to 2-4-0 overall.
Ohio State?s Lisa Grubb tallied the game-winning goal in the 25th minute as she received a pass from Colleen Hoban and snuck the ball past Pittsburgh goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi. Grubb slipped the scoring strike into the net from outside of the six-yard box.
Ohio State outshot the Panthers 22-11. Pelusi finished with 10 saves for Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh had an opportunity to even the score in the 57th minute when Cara Senger and Liz Potts fired consecutive shots on goal but Ohio State held off the Panthers? efforts with two game saving plays.
Pittsburgh enters Big East Conference play this Wednesday as it hosts West Virginia at 7 p.m. then plays Villanova on Friday at 7 p.m. Home games are played at Founders Field.
