Virginia Tech scored two second half goals to defeat the Pittsburgh women?s soccer team 2-0 Sunday at Founders Field. Pittsburgh drops to 3-8-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the Big East while Virginia Tech improves to 2-6-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big East.
Emily Barnhart gave Virginia Tech a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute when she controlled a pass from teammate Amy Rappaport and took a shot at Pittsburgh goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi. The shot rebounded back to Barnhart and she controlled it and sent it into the back of the net.
Virginia Tech went up 2-0 when Sarah Kammerer sent the ball past Pelusi and into the lower left corner after taking a pass from Barnhart in the 83rd minute.
Virginia Tech outshot Pittsburgh 14-13 but Pittsburgh registered six cornerkicks to the Hokies? zero.
In the first half, Pittsburgh outshot Virginia Tech 9-5 and took three cornerkicks to the Hokies? zero but couldn?t capitalize.
Pittsburgh next plays at Notre Dame on October 5.
