PITTSBURGH-- Carl Krauser scored a career-high 22 points in leading No. 22 Pittsburgh to an 83-54 victory over Albany Friday at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers (4-0) extended their home winning streak to 25 and have now won 19 in a row since moving into the Petersen Events Center.
Krauser shot a scorching 6-of-9 from three-point range and Pittsburgh made 14- of-29 attempts from beyond the arc overall (48.3 percent). His six 3-pointers were a career-high and two short of a school-record. Chris Taft registered his first career double-double posting 10 points and 10 rebounds while Julius Page chipped in 16 and Chevon Troutman added a career-high tying 12 boards and nine points in the win. Also, seeing his first significant action in his freshman season, Antonio Graves nailed three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for the Panthers.
Levi Levine led Albany (0-2) with 16 points and eight rebounds. With the score 43-37, Krauser hit a three to send the Panthers on a 13-0 run. Antonio Graves also hit from beyond the arc to make it a 56-37 game with just under 12 minutes left in the contest. Pitt ran away with it from there, outscoring the Great Danes 27-17 the rest of the way. During the spurt, Krauser went 3-for-3 from long range.
Albany kept things close in the first half, trailing by only five going into the locker room. With Pittsburgh up just two at 22-20, Taft had a dunk and two blocks to spark a 7-0 run just past the nine-minute mark of the first half. Graves hit a three and Jaron Brown finished it off with a layup to give the Panthers their biggest lead of the half at 29-20. Albany's Jon Iati made a three and Chris Wyatt converted on a fast break to cut the lead back to four at 29-25.
After three straight points by Pittsburgh, Iati hit another jumper to close out the half with Albany down 32-27.
Pittsburgh travels to Duquesne on Wednesday. Tipoff is at 9:30 p.m. with the contest televised on Fox Sports Net.
GAME NOTES
*Pittsburgh tied its school record for most consecutive on-campus victories with its 25th this evening. The Panthers need just two more home wins in a row to set a school record for most consecutive home victories.
*The Panthers have now won 27 consecutive regular season non-conference home games.
*This was the first matchup between the teams in school history. Pittsburgh is now 2-0 all-time against America East Conference competition.
*Pittsburgh hit 14 3-point field goals, just two shy of the school record of 16.
*Carl Krauser notched career-highs of 22 points and six 3-pointers.
*Chris Taft registered his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
*Chevon Troutman pulled down a career-high tying 12 rebounds.
