Pittsburgh Track and Field Dominates State Farm Games

PITTSBURGH?With the Big East Indoor Track Championships only two weeks away, the Pittsburgh indoor track and field teams made a statement by dominating the State Farm Games this past weekend in Morgantown, W. Va. The Panthers? combined for 11 first-place finishes, including eight from the women?s side and three from the men?s squad. Kimberly Lyles earned a first-place finish in the 200 meters (25.21) while Elizabeth Bayne and Nicole Vann placed first in the 800 meters and 60-meter hurdles, respectively. The DMR squad also took home top honors with a time of 12:26.86. In the field events, Tamara McGill was first in the high jump (1.77m) and Melanie Carter was tops in the triple jump (12.95m). Marissa Dudek tied for first in the pole vault (3.35m) and Amanda Walker rounded out the first-place finishes for the women in the shot put (15.52m). For the men?s team, Jeryl Wilborn placed first in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:32.88 and was second in the 400 meters (50.26). Shawndel Daniel had a first-place finish in the long jump (7.22m) and Mike Stellefson was tops in the shot put (16.15m). Pittsburgh has one more meet, the Penn State National Open, this upcoming weekend before traveling to the Big East Championships in Syracuse, N.Y., the following weekend.
