Mallorie Winn Reunites with Agnus Berenato at Pittsburgh

Winn is a Georgia Tech transfer.

University of Pittsburgh head women?s basketball coach Agnus Berenato has announced that one of her former players at Georgia Tech is transferring and will play for the Panthers. Mallorie Winn will sit out one year due to NCAA transfer rules and be eligible to play during the 2005-06 season.

?I am so excited that Mallorie has decided to join our program at the University of Pittsburgh,? Berenato said. ?She is a great first recruit for the 2005-06 season and will be a great addition. Mallorie is an impact player and we will greatly benefit from her decision to become apart of the Panthers? family.

?Mallorie is capable of taking over the ball game at any time, she is that in control of herself and her teammates. She can score at any time and is so fluid on the court. Mallorie plays with such finesse and will have an immediate presence in our backcourt.?

A 5-foot-11 guard, Winn (San Diego, Calif./Bishop?s) will have two years of eligibility remaining when she joins the Panthers. As a freshman for the Yellow Jackets, she averaged 7.4 points despite missing over 10 games with a stress fracture in her left foot. She had a career-high 21 points in just 19 minutes at North Carolina on Feb. 2, 2003, connecting on 9-of-15 shots with three 3-pointers.

As a sophomore, Winn played in 18 games and averaged 5.1 points per game. She finished with a season-high 15 points at Maryland (Jan. 15, 2004), hitting 10-of-10 foul shots to go along with two assists. She also hit double figures in scoring against West Virginia (Nov. 28, 2003), tallying 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting.

Prior to Georgia Tech, Winn was a standout guard for Bishop?s High as she led the team in both scoring and rebounding. As a senior, she led the Knights to a sixth consecutive CIF-San Diego Section Division IV title, leading all scorers in the finals with 32 points (12-of-19 shooting). A first-team All-San Diego Section pick by the San Diego Union-Tribune in 2002, she also helped Bishop?s to the California Division IV state title as a junior.
