Women's Soccer Drops 4-1 Decision to Boston College
9/26/2004
PITTSBURGH- The Pittsburgh women?s soccer team fell to Boston College 4-1 Sunday at Founders Field. Pittsburgh drops to 3-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the Big East while Boston College improves to 5-4-0 and 1-2-0 in the Big East.
Boston College started off the scoring just three minutes into the game when the Eagles' Jenny Maurer crossed a high ball to the far side of the field and Laina Ceddia headed the ball for a 1-0 lead.
But the Panthers battled back as they pressured BC?s defense with several scoring opportunities. Pittsburgh capitalized when Rachel Vecchio placed a ball into the penalty box to the feet of Kristina Francois. Francois passed the ball to Lisa Schulte, who was able to finish the pass and score. The assist from Francois was her third assist of the season and Schulte?s goal was her first of the season.
Starting the second half extremely strong, Pittsburgh?s defense did not allow BC many scoring opportunities. Pittsburgh?s goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi stood strong in net and kept BC from scoring for more then 15 minutes in the second half.
BC?s final three scores came in the final 25 minutes. Two goals came from penalty kicks by Maurer and Molly Dane's thru ball allowed a finish by Kia McNeill.
Pittsburgh is back in action on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Founder?s Field. The Panthers will face Providence in their third Big East Game of the season.
