Pitt Women's Soccer Defeats Providence 1-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I.-- The Pitt women's soccer team defeated Providence in Big East competition today 1-0. This improves the Panthers to 3-5-2 in the Big East and 4-9-3 overall. The Friars moved to 1-7-2 in the Big East and 4-10-2 overall.
The game's only goal came off the foot of Corina Sebesta. In the 72nd minute Erica Wright blasted a shot toward the Providence goal that was saved by Providence goalkeeper Laura Elfers. Corina Sebesta gathered the rebound and shot the ball to the lower left corner of the goal putting the Panthers up 1-0.
The best scoring opportunity came for Providence in the 64th minute when Ashley Amaral's shot hit the post denying the Friars of a goal.
"We played really well today," head coach Sue-Moy Chin said. "We controlled the ball well and had a good attack. Corina did really well finishing her goal with a nice shot low and to the far post."
Pitt continues play on Sunday, October 23rd when it takes on 2004 Big East Champion Connecticut.
