STORRS, Conn.-- The Pitt women's soccer team was defeated by the 2004 Big East Champion Connecticut Huskies at Morrone Stadium Sunday afternoon 1-0. Despite the loss the Pitt will see its first postseason competition since 1998 when it lost to Syracuse 2-0 in the Big East Quarterfinals. Pitt will travel to Rutgers to take on the Scarlet Knights in the first round of the 2005 Big East Tournament. The date and time of the game has not been determined yet. The Huskies improve to 10-1-0 in the Big East and 14-3-1 overall. After today's win, Connecticut clenches the Big East division title.
This will mark head coach Sue-Moy Chin's first appearance coaching the Panthers in postseason competition.
Connecticut senior Kristi Lefebvre had the game-winning goal for the Huskies. Lefebvre scored the lone goal at the 26th minute mark. The goal was assisted by Kim Noivadhana and nearby Butler, Pa. native Meghan Schnur. Noivadhana received the ball in front of the goal and fired into the lower right corner past Pitt goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi.
Pitt senior goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi recorded eight saves on the day. Pelusi is a leader in the Big East for number of saves.
The Panthers end regular season play with a record of 3-6-2 in the Big East and 4-10-3 overall.
