PITTSBURGH - The Pitt women's basketball game opens the 2005-06 season with an exhibition contest against California (Pa.). The Panthers and Vulcans will play at 7 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center, the second game of a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
In the first game, Pitt-Titusville will meet Carnegie Mellon, the second consecutive year Pitt has hosted one of its branch schools at the Petersen Events Center.
PITT: The Panthers are coming off a 13-win season, their highest victory total in five years. Two starters and six letterwinners return from that squad, including Preseason All-Big East honoree Marcedes Walker, a sophomore center. CALIFORNIA (PA): The Vulcans finished 26-6 a year ago and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament. California won the 2004 Division II National Championship. Four starters return from last year's team.
