Men's Swimming and Diving Earns Four Top Finishes

BLOOMINGTON, IN-Senior captains Jason Miller and Darryl Washington led the men's swimming and diving team with two titles a piece, as Pitt retuned home from the Indiana Invitational with a combined four first-place finishes. Team scores were not kept for this event, but the men earned a collective 60 top-10 finishes, including 25 in the top five.
Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was the top-finisher in the 100 fly at 48.87 and assisted on the 400 medley relay team's (3:20.46) win.
As a member of the 200 free (1:21.67), 200 medley (1:30.74), 400 free (3:01.10) and 800 free (6:47.50) relay teams, Miller earned second-place honors. Individually he finished second in the 200 IM (1:50.27), 200 fly (1:49.96) and was third in the 100 free (45.99).
Washington (Aldan, Pa./Penn Wood) claimed the 50 free with a time of 20.40 seconds and was also a member of the 400 medley relay team.
Washington also earned silver honors as a member of the 200 free, 200 medley, 400 free and 800 free relay teams.
Sophomore Jeremy Stultz (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) took first place on the 3M boards with a score of 334.10 points.
Senior Thomas Bird (Charleston, W.Va./Capital) and sophomore Warren Barnes (Pickering, Ont./Dunbarton) made up the rest of the champion 400 medley relay squad.
Bird also assisted on the second-place finishes of the 200 free, 200 medley, 400 free and 800 free relay teams. He tallied a third place effort in the 100 back (50.86). Barnes is the final member of the 200 medley relay team and also took second in the 100 breast (56.07).
Senior Michael Bernardi (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) completes the second-place 200 free relay squad, while Nathan McCutcheon (Apollo, Pa./The Kiski School) rounds out the 800 free relay team and Patrick Mansfield (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) completes the 400 free relay team.
Freshman Jonathan Buchanan (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) took third in the 1650 free (15:47.61) and classmate Alex Volovetski (Seffner, FL/Armwood) was third in the 1M boards (318.45).
The Panthers will take a break and return to the pool on Dec. 1 for the three-day U.S. Open in Auburn, AL.
