Women's Swimming and Diving Fall In Home-Opener

PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh women's swimming and diving team set two new records, this afternoon, but dropped a 138-105 decision to Notre Dame in front of 625 fans at Trees Pool. Pitt's record falls to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big East.
Kristin Brown (East Berlin, Pa./Oakland Catholic) was the first Panther to finish the 200 free. Brown took second place in the event but improved upon her school record, set last year (1:49.43) with a time of 1:49.30.
Later, Brown aided the 400 free relay team that swam to a new school record. The team included Stacie Safritt (Cranberry township, Pa./Seneca Valley), Kelly Redcay (Reading, Pa./Wilson) and Jordan Wallace (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) who won the event at 3:24.30.
Brown's third top finish of the say was in the 100 free (50.80), while Safritt took third in the same event (51.95).
Wallace, Redcay and Kelly O'Hara (Voorhees, N.J./Timber Creek) made a point in the 50 free, as they all took the top-three spots, respectively.
Kristin Caiazzo (Princeton, N.J./Hopewell Valley) led the charge in the 1M diving event with a 228.60 top-finish. Colleen Kristobak (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and Megan McCandless (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) took third and fourth in the same event.
In the 200 fly Amy Miteff (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) finished second at 2:06.15, while Andrea Shoust (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont./White Pines C & VS) claimed a second-place finish in the 200 back (2:04.61).
Later, divers Caiazzo, Kristobak and McCandless all placed in the top four of the 3M boards. Caiazzo claimed the victory (260.25), while Kristobak and McCandless took third and fourth.
Pitt will host Oakland University on Friday, Nov. 11. Diving events will begin at 4 p.m.
