PITTSBURGH - Justin Nestor captured his 100th career victory last weekend at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in his last bout of the tournament. He decisioned Beau Tresemer of the United States Air Force Academy by a score of 7-0, earning seventh place in the tournament.
Nestor (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) not only earned a spot as one of Pitt's all-time winningest wrestlers, but he also ranks third for 31 career pins and will likely moved to second before the year is out. His career record currently stands at 100-49 with a 24-17 dual record.
A three-time NCAA Championship qualifier, Nestor has been a dominant force on the Panther wrestling team since his freshman year. As a redshirt freshman, he finished 15-5 on the season with five falls and a second-place finish at the Wilkes Open. The following year, he earned his first NCAA berth after placing third at the EWL Championships, defeating Edinboro's Eric Ring twice on his way to Nationals. He finished third on the team with victories and was one of only two Panthers to compete in every dual match.
In 2003-04, Nestor earned his second NCAA berth and was ranked second on the team with 27 wins. He finished the season with ten falls and a third-place finish at both the Michigan State Open and Beast of the East tournament. Last season, he compiled a record of 24-12, winning nine of fourteen dual matches. Nestor finished second at both the Michigan State Open and Mat Town Invitational on his way to his third consecutive NCAA tournament.
"Justin brings a solid work ethic to our wrestling room. He's a great wrestler, and I'm not surprised he's achieved this," said Head Coach Rande Stottlemyer. "There's plenty more to come from him."
Nestor's next competition will be a dual meet against Missouri on December 19 before he heads to the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, N.C., at the end of the month.
