Tennis Defeats CMU, 6-3

The victory improves the Panthers to 7-6 on the season.

PITTSBURGH- The University of Pittsburgh?s Women?s Tennis claimed a 6-3 victory over Carnegie Mellon on Wednesday. The win improves the Panthers to 7-6 on the season.

The Panthers claimed the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Annie Davies (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) and Beckie Emmers (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) defeated Alison Liu and Grace Hwang, 8-1. Konita Jude (Milwaukee, Wisc./Rufus King High School) and Leah Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allerdice) finished out the doubles match, shutting out Kavita Shah and Mai Otsuka, 8-0.

In singles, at the No. 3 spot, Davies met Lui again and came away with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.  Friedman defeated CMU?s Hwang at the No. 4 spot, 6-4, 6-3.  In No. 5 singles, Emily Hughes (Waynesburg, Pa./Canevin Catholic) met Shah.  Hughes came out the winner after 3 sets, going 6-7, 6-3 and 10-6 against Shah.  To finished out the singles play, Carlie Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) defeated Otsuka, 6-0, 6-3.

The Panthers travel to Morgantown, W.Va to take on Seton Hall on April 1 and Rutgers on April 2. Both matches are set to begin at 3:00 PM.
