Women's Swimming and Diving Win Conference Opener

PITTSBURGH--Four Panthers garner multi-event wins, as the Pitt women's swimming and diving team races past Syracuse, 156-86, this afternoon at Trees Pool. The Panthers improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Big East.
The meet opened with the Panthers in the diving well. First, freshmen Margo Ekstrom (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Hanna Bratton (Lincoln, R.I./Moses Brown School) took third (211.35) and fourth (198.08), respectively, in the 3M board, followed by a second-place performance from Ekstrom in the 1M (230.93).
Then the gears shifted to the swimmers, and winning the first swimming event of the day was the 400 medley relay team, who stopped the clock at 3:56.37. Earning the win for the Panthers were freshman Lisa McDonnell (
Just as they did a day before, the Panthers swept the 1000 free. Senior Kathy Siuda (Waterloo, Ontario/Bluevale Collegiate Institute) won the event with a 10:36.42, while junior Caitlyn Harrington (

Adding to their list of wins on the day, Brown turned in first-place performances in the 100 free (52.52), while Mago claimed the title in the 500 free (5:02.75) and Shoust topped all in the 200 back (2:03.09).
Stevens swam to a second-place effort in the 200 fly (2:12.02), while later in the final individual event of the day, the 200 breast, Seiffert finished second with a time of 2:23.47.
