PITTSBURGH - The Pitt women's basketball team will have its first "road" game when the Panthers travel approximately two miles to Duquesne for a 2 p.m. Sunday meeting with the Dukes at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
Pitt, 2-0 on the year, will take on Duquesne (1-0), who defeated Saint Francis 58-57 on Wednesday night. The Panthers are coming off a 77-55 win over Mount St. Mary's Friday night at the Petersen Events Center.
The Panthers hold a 16-8 advantage over Duquesne in the all-time series. At Duquesne, the series is tied at 5-5. Last season, Pitt defeated the Dukes 82-69 in a home contest.
Sophomore guard Shavonte Zellous (Orlando, Fla./Jones) leads the team in scoring, averaging 22.5 points per game. Junior center Marcedes Walker (Philadelphia, Pa./University City), who averages 20.0 points per game, is just 60 points from reaching the 1,000-point mark early in her third season.
Pitt is in the middle of a stretch in which it plays four games in seven days. The Duquesne game also marks the first of four consecutive road contests for the Panthers.
Fans can listen to the game live on www.PittsburghPanthers.com or on Fox Sports Radio 970 AM Sunday night at 9 p.m. on a tape delay. Greg Linnelli and Mike Clark will call the action.
