PITT'S RYAN TOMEI PLACES THIRD AT CLEVELAND STATE OPEN

CLEVELAND - Four Pitt wrestlers traveled to the Cleveland State Open on Saturday where freshman Ryan Tomei finished third at heavyweight. With a 3-1 record, he recorded a fall and major decision. Also wrestling were Jake Pelletier, Matt Darnell and A.J. Hunte.
Tomei (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) won his first bout with a 17-4 major decision over Virginia's Jack Danikowicz. He then went on to defeat Ohio's Joe Tymoszczuk in his next match with a 5-1 decision. In the quarterfinals, Tomei lost a 5-3 decision to Dave Herman of Indiana, but he came back in his final bout, defeating John Horn with a pin at the 3:09 mark. This marked Tomei's third fall of the season.
At 174 pounds, Pelletier (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) went 1-2, winning his first bout with a 4-1 decision over Joby Shreckhise of Limestone. Pelletier then lost by a technical fall in the quarterfinals and dropped 9-5 decision to Michigan State's Blake Mesyn in his final match.
Both Darnell (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley C.A.) and Hunte (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) went 0-2 in the tournament.
