LYNCHBURG, Va. - The men's track and field team sent three athletes to the Liberty Asics Collegiate Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Eric Jones, Dartel McRae and Charles Sneed competed in mostly jumps and multi-events, with Jones taking first in the triple jump.
Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) has been having a strong outdoor season in the triple jump. This weekend he took first with a personal-best mark of 14.37 meters. Last weekend he finished second in the event at the Raleigh Relays and holds one of the top marks in the conference. Sneed (Farrell, Pa./Farrell) also competed in the triple jump, finishing eighth with a personal-best mark of 13.20 meters.
In the long jump, Jones placed 13th with a personal-best mark of 6.24 meters, and Sneed took sixth in the high jump with a personal-best height of 1.87 meters. Both also competed in the 100 meters, their first collegiate sprints event. Sneed finished in 16th with a time of 11.59, and Jones finished in 23rd with a time of 11.98.
McRae (Pottstown, Pa./Seton Hall) competed in his first decathlon, taking ninth with 4,027 points. McRae not only competed in sprints and jumps, but he also participated in several field events including the pole vault and shot put.
The Panthers' next competition is the Texas Relays from April 5-8. All three athletes achieved personal-best marks this weekend, en route to what they hope will become conference honors in May.
