Pitt Men Finish 10th at IC4A Outdoor Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - The men's track and field team headed to New Jersey for the IC4A Championships this weekend. They tied for 10th place overall with 26 points. In first place was George Mason with 59 points. Pitt had five competitors finish in the top 10 of their events while winning the pole vault.
Keith Higham (Carlisle, England/Trinity Carlisle) won the pole vault competition with a height of 5.35 meters. Higham set a school record at last weekend's conference championships when he won the event at 5.37 meters.
Senior Tony Bonura (Plum, Pa./Canisius College) placed second in the javelin. He threw for a mark of 65.49 meters. Both Bonura and Higham have had Regional-qualifying marks in each competition this season.
In the 1,500 meters, junior Tim Konoval (Parry Sound, Ontario/Central Connecticut State) placed third with a personal-best time of 3:45.63. Junior Eric Fleming (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) placed eighth at 3:50.28. Freshman Eric Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) placed eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.63 meters.
Pitt also had some sprinters competing this weekend. In the 100 meters, freshman Sam Perkins (Kent, Ohio/Kent Roosevelt) and senior Chris Anderson (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) ran for times of 10.84 and 10.89 respectively. The 400-meter relay team ran for a time of 42.19 as well.
The Panthers will use the next two weeks to prepare for the NCAA East Regional Championships at N.C. State A&T State University. This next competition will serve as the NCAA qualifying meet for the track and field team.
