INDIANOLA, Pa.-- The Pitt women's soccer team recorded its fifth win of the season at Founders Field on Sunday as it defeated the Golden Flashes 1-0. Pitt improves its record to 5-2-1 overall and Kent State drops to 3-4-1 overall.
"We got the result we wanted today, we got the win," Pitt head coach Sue-Moy Chin said. "We could have finished some more of our chances, but we bounced back after a hard battle on Friday. Kent State never stopped fighting. Friday we move into the Big East portion of our schedule and we are excited for that. There is very good competition in the conference and it should be a challenge."
Senior Carli Brill (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) scored the lone goal for the Panthers in the game's 28th minute. Brill managed to get her head on a ball coming off a free kick taken by Corina Sebesta (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead.
Pitt headed into the second half leading 1-0, but neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remaining 45 minutes of the game.
The Panthers recorded 16 shots to Kent State's three.
Pitt continues its play on Friday, Sept. 22 at Founders Field as it takes on Big East opponent St. John's.
