PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Pitt Men's Soccer team dropped its conference opener to Louisville 2-1 Friday night at Founders Field. The Panthers (0-4-1 overall, 0-1-0 Big East) were unable to hold off the Cardinals in overtime.

Pitt scored first in the 18th minute of play when senior Brendon Smith (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) headed teammate Matt Langton's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) corner kick into the net.

Louisville (2-1-1, 1-0-0 Big East) came back with two strong attacks in the 34th minute when defender John Jonke's shot bounced off the left goal post. Seconds later, David Guzman attempted to tie the score, but Panther goalie Jordan Marks (McMurray, Pa./ Hatboro-Hosham) tipped the ball over the net.

Late in the second half, a Panther defender was called for a foul and Louisville was awarded a penalty kick. Guzman capitalized on the call and tied the game 1-1 in the 77th minute as his shot sailed past Marks.

The score remained tied through regulation, but the Cardinals sealed the deal in the 100th minute when freshman Othaniel Yanez knocked the winning goal into the net off Guzman's pass.

Senior Keeyan Young (North Wales, Pa./Haverford School) finished the game with three shots for the Panthers. Pitt will be back in action on Sunday at Founders Field as it takes on Cincinnati at 1 p.m.
