Midway through the first half, Omar Cummings attempted to tie the game up for Cincinnati (2-3-1, 0-2-0 Big East) with a header, but Panther goalie Jordan Marks (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) made a diving save to preserve Pitt's lead. Marks finished the game with six saves in 104:50 minutes of play.

Minute later, the Bearcats capitalized on a corner kick of their own when Cummings' kick bounced off teammate Amir Ikner's shoulder and into the left side of the net, tying the game at 1-1.
Regulation ended with the score tied, but in the first minute of overtime, the Bearcats had an opportunity to take the game when Dominic Oppong missed a wide-open header opportunity in front of the Panther goal.
