PITTSBURGH - Quoting Pitt's Head Coach Agnus Berenato:
Opening Statement:
"This is a great win. We were excited to be back to playing and back on our home court again after 10 days off. We were coming off a tough loss to Duke, but losses like that can either make you better or they can make bitter, and I think this one made us better. Our staff did a great job, as did our student-athletes preparing for this game, and bringing the necessary energy to get the victory."
On the support of the crowd:
"I was very pleasantly surprised at how into the game the crowd was tonight. It really gave us a big lift. I told the team before the game that with school being out and the holidays coming up, we might have to provide our own spark tonight. It was awesome to see that many people here tonight though, and hopefully those that came got to see what Pitt women's basketball is all about."
On playing Duquesne Saturday:
"It's a city game which is always exciting to be a part of. Duquesne has a very good team and a lot of our players know each other, which makes it a lot of fun for them. It'll be nice for us to get back quickly too after the long lay off between our last two games. We're all looking forward to it."
Quoting Pitt's Marcedes Walker:
On being named to the Naismith Trophy watch list:
"It's a great honor to be named to the list. However, I really want to dedicate the achievement to my coaches and teammates who pushed me to get better. They're the reason I'm getting these kinds of accolades."
On how Pitt's program has grown:
"It's taken a big step since I came to visit as a senior in high school. It wasn't at a very high point then, but I knew that the coaches had the ability to get good players and build the program. I'm just glad that I was able to come in and contribute."
