Quoting Pitt Head Coach Agnus Berenato:
"I want to start off by complimenting Ohio. I thought they really rattled us early and were able to take us out of what we wanted to do. With that said, coach (Shea) Ralph did a great job scouting Ohio. We knew all of the sets they were going to run and were prepared for what they were going to throw at us on defense - their specific presses and traps. I also want to compliment Shayla Scott, who played her best game for us so far. She really stepped up defensively, and when she rebounds the ball like that, we're very effective."
On having a strong post team in games like this:
"Marcedes Walker and Shavonte Zellous did a great job tonight. When you're a little bit out of sync it's nice to have to players who you know you can go inside to and there's a good chance they're going to score. I was impressed with how Marcedes handled the double team too. She distributed when she had too, but looked to score when she had to too."
On the play of Shayla Scott:
"I think she played great tonight, but she's only beginning to scratch the surface as a player. She really doesn't realize right now how good she is. I think she's capable of a double-double every game and also has the ability to be a strong defensive presence. The power forward position is going to be key for us this year."
Quoting Pitt's Marcedes Walker:
On playing the home opener:
"I'm very excited to be back home. It's nice to have the home court advantage with the crowd behind your back. You realize when you're on the road as long as we were what a difference it makes to hear people clapping as opposed to yelling negatives."
On Pitt's early offensive struggles:
"We had some trouble early and I think that has a lot to do with us not practicing together much this week. I was under the weather and Xenia Stewart wasn't able to start, so it took a while to adjust. I think we fixed the problems though, and we also made sure to start talking to each other more. It was a good test and I'm glad we came through."
