Panthers Drop First Match Of The Season

RIVERSIDE, Calif.--Freshman Sabrina Visram extended her unbeaten singles streak with another victory, however the Panthers fell to Cal-Riverside in a nail-biting 4-3 contest. Pitt now holds a 4-1 record on the year.

The Panthers earned victories from their latter three single seeds, as Visram (Windermere, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) enhanced her unblemished singles record to 5-0 by defeating Yasaman Sakhakorn (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) in the No. four slot.

Senior Annie Davies (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) picked up a win in No. 5 singles and now has 115 career wins. Also improving her record on the season was sophomore Christie D'achille (Gibsonia, Pa./North Allegheny) who won in the No. 6 slot and boasts a 15-3 season mark.

For the first time this season, the Panthers lost the early doubles point. Pitt was swept in all three matches, as the No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Kristy Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) and junior Leah Friedman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) played the closest match in a 5-8 defeat.

Borza and Friedman dropped their first match of the spring and are now 12-4 on the season.

The Panthers travel to Morgantown, W.Va. on Friday, March 16, for a contest against West Virginia at 3 p.m.
