Women's Tennis Claims Win Over Villanova

PITTSBURGH--Sophomore Kristy Borza and freshman Sabrina Visram teamed together for the first time and picked up a win in the deciding doubles match for Pitt, as the Panthers defeated Villanova, 5-2, at Club 4 Life this afternoon.
The Panthers (9-3, 3-2 Big East) earned the doubles point, winning two of the three to open the match. Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) and Visram (
The duo opened the match down 4-0 but battled back to tie it at 6-6. The match then continued and went into a tiebreaker, where Borza and Visram were victorious after Borza found a spot behind one of the Villanova opponents for match point.
The No. 3 doubles team of junior Carlie Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and freshman Annie Piccirillo (Spring City, Pa./The Hill School-Pottstown) were paired together for the first time this spring and were the first team to finish, earning the win.
After Pitt dropped its No. 2 doubles bout, both the Panthers and Wildcats looked on, awaiting the deciding match in No. 1 doubles. Pitt has won the doubles point in nine of its matches this season.
In singles action, Visram continued to extend her undefeated streak with a win in the No. 3 slot. After losing the lead, Visram came back to win the first set in a tiebreaker and then gave up just two points in the second set for her 11th-consecutive win of the season.
