Women's Tennis Drops Close Match

PITTSBURGH--With all the excitement that a cross-town rival is supposed to carry, sophomore Kristy Borza set the single-season singles' record for wins, as Pitt's women's tennis team dropped an away match to Duquesne, 4-3, at Club 4 Life this afternoon. The Panthers fall to 10-6 on the season.

Borza (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) recorded her 94^th career win in the No. 1 slot. Earning her 27th win of the season, Borza also eclipsed the single-season record for wins. She tied Maria Paris' (1979-78) single-season record of 26 wins last year and now owns the record with more singles action to play this year.

With the doubles point already decided in favor of Duquesne, Pitt's No. 3 doubles duo of junior Carlie Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and freshman Annie Piccirillo (Spring City, Pa./The Hill School) continued to play hard through a tiebreaker, earning the lone doubles win.

Freshman Sabrina Visram (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) and sophomore Christie D'achille (Gibsonia, Pa./North Allegheny) also posted wins in singles play.

D'achille is currently fourth on the single-season wins lists in singles actions with 22 victories. She is just one win shy of tying Smith's third-best mark of 23 singles wins last year.

Pitt travels to Morgantown, W.Va. on Friday, April 13, for a neutral site match against Big East foe Rutgers at noon.
